Elop AS has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Terratec AS, a Nordic provider of survey and inspection services, regarding the commercial use of Elop’s technology in combination with Terratec’s services.
Terratec is a leading service supplier of geomatics services, including provision of surveying and inspection services for buildings, infrastructure, construction projects and industry applications. Terratec will integrate the “Elop Insight” hand-held, rolling ultrasound scanner in its existing service portfolio, especially in combination with georadar measurement and 3D laser scanning.
“This is an important strategic breakthrough for Elop in the infrastructure inspection space. It will help us build a technology track record and give us access to highly valuable data from concrete infrastructure,” says Øivind Horpestad, executive chairman of Elop.
Under the cooperation agreement, Elop will first train Terratec’s personnel in using Elop Insight. Elop will then make available ultrasound scanners to Terratec for utilisation in inspection projects.
The two parties will jointly sell and market the mutual utilisation of personnel, services, and equipment.
“Terratec is a specialist in the field of surveying and inspection, and utilisation of the latest advanced sensors and technology has always been a success factor for us. The agreement with Elop is a natural extension of the technology leadership position we have in this industry and gives Terratec an opportunity to develop our portfolio of services” says Sara Filseth, Head of GeoEngineering department at Terratec.
The rolling Elop Insight ultrasound scanner helps to identify issues that owners of concrete infrastructure must address. It is designed to quickly inspect and assess large surface areas. The live 3D visualisation of the concrete structure on the scanner screen, provides a real-time interpretation of the concrete’s internal state, including elements and defects such as cracks, air pockets, voids and delamination, and rebars.
As part of the agreement, Elop will assist Terratec with interpretation of the 3D images from Terratec’s scanning operations with Elop Insight.
By coupling this unique data insight with cloud-based systems, Elop can provide the worldwide construction industry and infrastructure owners with richer and more insightful data than before.
“The major long-term value for Elop, asset owners and society as a whole, is the data gathering that enables long term monitoring of critical infrastructure. Collaborating with Terratec within this field is therefore highly beneficial to both Elop and Terratec’s customers,” says Øivind Horpestad.
